In the Algarve region there is quite a large area covered with woodlands which allows you to practice two rather unusual sports: hunting and orienteering. The Algarve is dotted with several hunting reserves where all the sports hunters can find a few birds of prey and other animals to hunt. If you would rather not take away the life of any living creatures but still want to explore the woodlands of Algarve you can do it by attending a round of orienteering.

Hunting Reserves

In the hunting reserves of Algarve many game animals are bred especially for hunting and they keep a balanced ecosystem. If you like this fashionable sport come to Algarve and enjoy.

In all there are 27 hunting zones designated for tourists plus additional 135 hunting association reserves with 24 municipal areas. There are three different hunting seasons during which you can hunt for rabbits, deer, partridge and wild boars. Over the Algarve region there are six municipalities which have hunting zones for tourists of which Alcoutim has the utmost. The most recommended hunting zones found in Alcoutim are at Tavira, Silves, Portimão, Loulé and Castro Marim. Be on the watch and hunt down your prey!

Orienteering

In the captivating countryside of the Algarve region you will find the most ideal locations for orienteering. Get in touch with nature through this exciting sport which involves and requires orientation skills and a sharp mind. All you need is a map, a compass, suitable clothing and a cheerful mood. You must be travel through a pre-defined distance, pass through particular points noted on the map in order to reach the final destination.

If you know how to read maps, you are good at finding sites and have a good sense of time and space this sport is for you. You can travel across the land on two wheels or go on foot. Orienteering is a fun sport for the whole family. You can choose from a variety of routes and always adapt the level and difficulty of the course to suit your companion’s and your abilities. The Algarve has a perfect climate for orienteering which allows all lovers of this sport to have a great time.
