Popular beaches in the western region of Algarve

It is hard to make a decision when it comes to choosing the best beach in Algarve. There are so many to choose from and all are splendid and spectacular. Indeed all beaches have their advantages and their beauty however each has something unique and special which might help you decide. If you are planning to spend a holiday in the western region of Algarve here we have a few suggestions for best beaches.

Try Praia do Burgau if you like an urban setting or Praia do Martinhal if you would rather go on a small beach. Praia da Bordeira is a long sandy beach which leaves space for everyone. Whichever you choose you cannot go wrong, for all beaches make a wonderful and lovely setting for a perfect vacation.

Praia do Burgau

Praia do Burgau can be found in Burgau village. The beach marks the borderline between Costa Vicentina and Alentejo and it is a perfect location for fishing which is followed by the fact that in many restaurants you will find fresh fish and other specialties brought to you by the local fishermen. The beach also boasts with beautiful landmarks: a 17th century fortress and the ruins of a 16th century tower.

Praia do Martinhal

A small beach for people who don’t like the crowds, Praia do Martinhal is situated close to Sagres, in the shallow Baleeira Bay. The beach is dominated by the northerly winds and is a nice location for windsurfing diving and other water sports. Take a trip to one of the limestone islets in the area or visit the underwater grottoes and the ruins of a Roman pottery. The beach can be accessed from Sagres where you can park your car as well.

Praia da Bordeira

Praia da Bordeira is also among the popular beaches on the western shore of Algarve. The location can be reached from Vila do Bispo. The beach is dotted with sand dunes and limestone cliffs. Take a stroll to Carrapateira and be on a lookout for otters in the lagoon. The pine trees on the pine dunes make a spectacular view worth seeing.

There are large red toned rocks on Bordeira beach which make a perfect spot for fishing. Take a seat in the company of a seabird and enjoy the silence. The beach can be approached from Carrapateira. Parking is not too organized but supervision on the beach makes up for it.
