Best sports activities in the Algarve region

It is generally known that all sports are good for your health but what’s more is that they can be also a lot of fun. When you are on holiday away from the busy life full of work and non-stop running you have the opportunity to practice and enjoy your favourite sports activities as much as you like.

In the Algarve region there are plenty of possibilities on the sports territory. You can go extreme with mountain biking and hiking or relax on the shore next to a bottle of cold drink and a fishing rod. There are all kinds of terrains suitable for all kinds of sports. Choose the one that suits you the most and pass the time away.

Mountain Biking

Here’s a fun and fantastic sports activity for all sports lovers: mountain biking. Ride away on two wheels across the Caldeirão Mountains and admire the wonderful and magnificent landscapes along the marshlands and saltpans of Formosa Estuary. As you cycle through the mountainous region of the Algarve you will pass by several attractions, cross through hills and valleys, natural trails and temporary streams. Challenge you biking skills and discover the summits of the coastal hills, the salty lakes and the breathtaking scenery.

Sailing and other water sports

Since the Algarve region is connected to the sea it offers several water sports activities not only on the shore but further inside the land of marines, the Atlantic Ocean. You can go sailing or ride the tides on surfboards. The crystal clear waters of Algarve will simply enchant you and never let you go. Most of the beaches offer surf, body-board, kite surf, windsurf and jet ski rentals. There are trainings and schools for beginners and plenty of waves for the experienced riders as well. If you would rather stay dry and choose leisure sport of sailing we recommend you the marinas at Albufeira or Lagos.

Fishing, canoeing and others

Sport fishing out on the seas or sitting on the coast is another option. If you like to make bigger efforts in your sports activities then try fighting the current down the rivers if Guadiana and Arade in a canoe.

Boat trips and cruises

This might not be called an actual sports activity but since it involves water it is worth mentioning. After a few days of exhausting sporting take a chill pill and relax on a boat trip out on the Atlantic.
